What is the Solana Mobile Saga About?

On 23 June 2023, Solana Mobile Saga was launched as the "mobile for the Web3 era." Solana Mobile Saga offers Web3 features such as secure self-custody through private keys protection using secure hardware that allows users to sign transactions with just a fingerprint in the familiar mobile Android 13 OS environment.

Solana Mobile Saga was sold out in the U.S by end of 2023 thanks to the phone's unique combination of Web3 functionality with Web2 familiarity that addresses the market pain points of poor user experience (UX) and user interface (UI) of mobile decentralized applications (dApps).

The success of Solana Mobile Saga led to the launches of other Web3 smartphones focusing on gamification, decentralized identification, and the Metaverse.

JamboPhone: The JamboPhone comes pre-installed with the JamboApp that provides access to gamified quests through Tap-to-Earn (T2E) games in the Jambo Ecosystem. The smartphone allows users to securely manage digital assets using the integrated OKX non-custodial wallet that supports 200,000+ coins across 90+ networks.

Nothing Phone: The Nothing Phone is developed by the Nothing smartphone company in collaboration with Polygon. The smartphone integrates Polygon ID, a decentralized identification system that uses zero-knowledge cryptography to verify user identities without sharing personal data, allowing privacy-secured access to dApps on the Polygon network.

HTC Desire 22 Pro: The HTC Desire 22 Pro is designed with virtual reality (VR) capabilities to access the VIVERSE Metaverse ecosystem. The smartphone supports non-fungible tokens (NFTs), cryptocurrencies, and digital asset storage using Vive wallets. Users can connect to VIVERSE and stream content directly to the VIVE Flow headset, blending Metaverse experiences with blockchain technology.

With Solana leading the way, the "mobile for the Web3 era" has indeed arrived.

How is Solana Pioneering the Use of Mobile-First Web3 Design Principles?

Solana leads the way for mobile-first Web3 development with its Solana Mobile Stack (SMS) that provides developers with the necessary resources to build mobile-native dApps and wallets. The key components of the SMS include:

  • SMS SDKs: Simplify the development process with tools for building and deploying dApps and wallets.
  • Mobile Wallet Adapter: Allows superior transaction signing for mobile dApps and wallets.
  • Mobile-Native Functionalities: Incorporate the use of push-notifications, camera, GPS trackers and biometric sensors.
  • React Native: Supports fast deployment of web-based dApps and wallets onto mobile platforms.
  • Seed Vault: Protects cryptographic seeds through secure hardware that uses Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption to prevent unauthorized access.

The SMS powers the Solana Saga smartphone and its successor,  Solana Seeker. Launched as the "definitive Web3 mobile device" on 19 September 2024 at TOKEN2049 Singapore, Solana Seeker is natively integrated with the hardware Seed Vault that is connected to the non-custodial Solflare wallet for secure crypto storage and payment on the Solana dApp Store 2.0. Solana Seekers can also use their smartphones to generate a unique and non-transferable Seeker Genesis Token to unlock exclusive content and rewards in the Solana ecosystem.

How is Web3Auth Supporting Mobile-First Developers Building DApps for Solana Seeker?

Web3Auth is supporting mobile-first developers building dApps for Solana Seeker through our Solana mobile SDKs and tools that simplify Web3 authentication and wallet integration. Web3Auth’s Solana-supported native mobile SDKs comprise of our Core Kit Mobile SDKs and Plug-and-Play (PnP) Mobile SDKs.

Core Kit Mobile SDKs

  • Target Use: Designed for Solana Seeker developers who want direct integration of Web3Auth’s key management libraries within their mobile dApps. It provides more control over how Web3 features, such as authentication and key management, are implemented.
  • Features: Supports both Single Factor Authentication (SFA) and Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA). Solana Seeker developers can choose to implement either SFA for a simplified experience or MFA for enhanced security for their mobile dApps.
  • Supported Platforms : Android, React Native, and Flutter.

PnP Mobile SDKs

  • Target Use: Focuses on providing a ready-to-use solution for quick integration, allowing Solana Seeker developers to implement secure wallet services for their mobile dApps with minimal setup.
  • Features: Designed for rapid deployment with little to no customization requirements. Solana Seeker developers can integrate pre-built authentication and wallet management services into their mobile apps to speed up the development process.
  • Supported Platforms: Android, React Native, and Flutter.

In sum, Core Kit SDKs are ideal for Solana Seeker developers needing high customization and control over the authentication and wallet management processes for their mobile dApps whereas PnP SDKs are suitable for Solana Seeker developers looking for a fast and straightforward solution to integrate Web3 wallet functionality into their mobile dApps without the need for deep customization.
